Snorkeling with Whale Sharks near La Paz
Swim with the largest fish in the sea! Seasonally (sometime from about late October to April) these gentle giants congregate off the shores of the El Mogote peninsula just north of La Paz. Calm seas permitting we will take you in our 25-foot permitted boat to the nearby feeding grounds of the whale shark. This is the oceans largest fish; a toothless, plankton feeding shark with a gentle nature. This activity is highly regulated with permitted and licensed boats and crew ONLY allowed into the area where the sharks tend to mingle. You will be guided by our bilingual naturalist guide and experienced and licensed boat captain for close encounters in the water with this magnificent ocean dweller.
These sharks tend to feed and swim at the sea’s surface with only their fins visible from above water. For more encompassing views of the sharks we encourage you to get in the water with your mask and snorkel and observe their beauty up close in their element. However, getting in the water is totally optional.
Please complete a reservation form with our La Paz office (using the link below) for a specific day at least one month in advance if possible. At that time our La Paz office can reserve a departure for you on that day. However, keep in mind this activity takes place in nature and is unpredictable. Departures are subject to wind and sea conditions with little wind and calmer seas necessary AS WELL AS having a minimum number of sharks present (set by the regulating authorities) in the area. You will not be charged until the day of departure.
