The trips below (some only during certain months) provide the highest chance of interacting with Baja’s prolific wildlife including but not limited to sea lions, dolphins, manta rays, whale sharks, turtles, fish and a variety of whale species including gray, blue, humpback, pilot, Brydes, fin and sperm.
For close up whale encounters choose a Magdalena Bay (MB) gray whale watching quick getaway trip anytime from mid-January through mid-March. Cow/calf pairs are more common later in the season. If you want to see the gray whales of MB on the Pacific as well as sea kayak and snorkel with sea lions in the Sea of Cortez then combine a Magdalena Bay gray whale watching quick getaway trip with an Espiritu Santo Island (ESI) quick getaway trip for a 10-day comprehensive Baja adventure. During late January and early February our ESI quick getaway packages include snorkeling with whale sharks and releasing turtle hatchlings which you can combine with a MB gray whale trip for an 11-day wildlife extravaganza including encounters with gray whales, sea turtles and snorkeling with whale sharks and sea lions!
Island Hopping trips in March and early April often provide the opportunity of seeing migrating whales in the Sea of Cortez including blue, humpback, Brydes, fin, pilot and possibly sperm.
On ESI trips in March and early April we frequently see humpback whales.
Whale sharks are common in La Paz Bay only a short boat ride from town October through March. We offer half-day trips to snorkel with them. If you want to snorkel with whale sharks plan an extra day or two in town before or after your multi-day trip with us OR choose one of our special packages in which we include this activity on your way to or from the Espiritu Santo island in late January or early February.
Sea turtle hatchlings are released in the evening from the beaches near Todos Santos October through January. Look for our excursions below that include this activity or choose to add this half day trip to any itinerary from October through January.
